Jesup is located approximately 9 miles east of Waterloo-Cedar Falls Metropolitan area and 6 miles west of Independence, Iowa on U.S. Highway 20, placing it within the D.A.R.E. community. The Jesup Police Department has an excellent working relationship with the Fire Department and Ambulance Services along with all area law enforcement agencies. Our Department handles all types of calls for service each month, from citizens and other agencies. The department is constantly adjusting to meet the needs of the rapidly growing city population, and is available to provide assistance to any person in need whether in Jesup, or out of town through mutual aid. The Jesup Police Department prides itself on community based policing and its primary goal of preventing crime and preservation of life and property. The Jesup Volunteer Fire & Rescue was organized in 1903. It is solely a volunteer organization built on tradition. It maintains a staff of 25 active firefighters. Besides the Chief, there are 3 Assistant Chiefs, a Drill Instructor, Secretary and Treasurer. We meet the second and fourth Thursday of each month. The second Thursday we have an Officers' Meeting at 1830 hrs, and at 1900 hrs. we have our Drill, followed by the Business Meeting. On the fourth Thursday, at 1900 hrs. we have an extra Drill. We average 100 runs a year.
Several Firefighters are trained to the Firefighter I certification level. We also have Firefighters trained to Firefighter II certification, Driver/Operator, Haz Mat Operations, First responder, and EMT.
Our department maintains 3 Pumpers ( 2 Rural and 1 City), a Tanker, Rescue and 2 Grass Units. The Rural Pumpers each have a 750 GPM Waterous pump. The City Pumper has a 1000 GPM Waterous pump. All three Pumpers were built by General. The Tanker has a 1500 gallon tank and a 250 GPM Darley pump. It was built by Simon. The Rescue is equipped with the Jaws-of-Life, Air Bags, SCBA, Generator w/Lights, Ropes, Tools and other utility equipment. Each Grass Unit is equipped to handle Grass and Brush fire operations, as well as quick attack.

Currently there are 26 members. Of those current members there are eleven EMT-I's, seven EMT-B's, three EMT-D's, three First Responders and two assistants. The ambulance service is currently running as an "I" transporting service with hopes of some year going to a full paramedic service.
