Buchanan County Iowa Alerts
Emergency Notification System
Buchanan County residents have a fast way of learning about potentially dangerous emergency situations with a phone call, text, or e-mail message to their home, cell phone, or computer. In an emergency, every second counts. That’s why receiving key information as soon as possible can make all the difference. Buchanan County Iowa Alerts is the mass notification system that is capable of alerting citizens and emergency personnel of emergency situations.
Buchanan County Iowa Alerts can send emergency messages to the entire county, individual communities, or to targeted areas in case of an emergency situation that requires immediate action (such as a boil-water notice, missing child, flash flood, evacuation notices, etc), but you must sign up for this service.
No one should automatically assume his or her phone number is already registered. All businesses should register, as well as all individuals who have unlisted phone numbers, who have changed their phone number or address within the last year, and who use a cellular phone as their primary home phone.
The system works for cell phones too, but the system needs an associated address. People who have recently moved, but kept the same listed or unlisted phone number also need to update their address in the database to keep it current.
Register by using the link to the right. You decide what numbers to register and can even select notices from more than one community. You can sign-up to get messages for the town where you live, where you work, where your children go to school, or where you may have elderly relatives. Finally, you can identify special needs you may have to emergency responders. It's easy, just go to the link to the right and fill-in or check the boxes.
